Burden of Musculoskeletal Diseases in the United States

The Burden of Musculoskeletal Diseases in the United States (BMUS) illustrates the impact of musculoskeletal diseases in the US, including societal and economic cost. This year, USBJI has focused on dissemination of the 2020 report and identifying new BMUS leadership (co-editors and expert consultant).

Moving forward into 2023, the BMUS Steering Committee will prioritize the updating of individual BMUS chapters (rather than one major full publication every five years), as well as developing short reports on topical issues in musculoskeletal health. Additionally, USBJI will explore the development of a dashboard which could include maps with state-level estimates to allow uses to obtain selected statistics for the US population overall and stratified by socio-demographic characteristics like age, sex, and race/ethnicity, where available.
